Calcedeaver Dance Team

Dancers at Fort Conde
Dancers at Fort Conde

Calcedeaver's Dance Team was established in 2001 and started out with only 5 dancers in the entire school.  With the assistance of Mrs. Laretta Weaver and numerous parent volunteers, we have been able to increase the dance team number to over 100 students.  Throughout the school year, Calcedeaver is host to a variety of schools throughout the MCPSS who visit our Native American Culture Exhibit.  The Dance Team is part of the demonstration and is always the highlight of the day.

All students MUST maintain at least a 3.0 (B) average in all subjects and must have excellent conduct.  Currently, Morgan Reed, 6th Grade, serves as Miss Indian Education while Cheyenne Evans, 2nd Grade, serves as Lil' Miss Indian Education. These girls have done an excellent job representing Calcedeaver's Indian Education program at various events along with other members of the Dance Team.

Our Dance Team has been invited to a variety of events including: the Environmental Center, Fort Conde, Foley Harbor Days, and Fort Mims Re-enactment.  Many of these events take place on the weekends and our students sacrifice their days off to represent their school.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank the administration (for all their support), the teachers for their patience (when students miss their class for demonstrations), the students (for always being willing and for making me proud each time), parents (for bringing your children to performances and volunteering your time), and to Mrs. Laretta Weaver (for helping make it all possible).  We add new students to our dance team each year and hope to continue to have an outstanding Indian Education Program.
